Documentation
The drawings, surveys and records that describe a building project, from site plans to as-builts.
- As-builts
Drawings updated after construction to record what was actually built: final dimensions, locations, and routes of pipes, ducts, and wiring, including changes made on site.
- Building section
A drawing of a building as if sliced vertically, showing floor-to-floor heights, foundations, floors, walls, and roof construction in one view.
- Electrical plan
A floor plan showing the location of outlets, switches, light fixtures, and the wiring that connects them, along with the main panel and circuit information.
- Exterior elevation
A flat, straight-on drawing of one outside face of a building, showing heights, roof shape, windows, doors, cladding materials, and the ground line.
- Floor plan
A drawing of a building seen from above as if cut horizontally about 1.2 m (4 ft) above the floor, showing walls, doors, windows, rooms, and dimensions.
- Interior elevation
A straight-on drawing of one inside wall of a room, showing cabinetry, built-ins, finishes, fixtures, and their mounting heights.
- Land survey
A measured record of a property prepared by a surveyor, showing its legal boundaries, corners, easements, existing buildings, and often ground levels and contours.
- Reflected ceiling plan
A plan of the ceiling, drawn as if seen in a mirror on the floor, showing ceiling heights, finishes, light fixtures, vents, and smoke detectors. Often called an RCP.
- Site plan
A drawing showing the whole property from above: the building footprint, property lines, setbacks, driveways, landscaping, ground levels, and utility connections.
